When Jay Cutler stopped by BPI Sports headquarters to train with the company’s co-founder, James Grage, you know the cameras were rolling. In the video, James picks Jay’s brain about what it takes to build a massive chest, from the exercises and approach, to the tiny nuances and details that can be game changers. Maybe it’s because Jay is no longer competing that he was willing to open up and share many of his untold secrets—even James was surprised to find out about a few of them.
James’ questions focused on building a bigger chest. When you have been hitting the weights for as long as James has, the best way to learn new information is to connect with other experts. And when it comes to chest, no one knows how to build one better than Jay.
Here are five of Jay’s best tips on building a bigger chest:
FOCUS ON FORM
When you do a chest movement you need to focus on keeping the chest high. You don't want to curl over. You want to keep the chest out so you can contract. Everything is about contraction not just pushing the weight.
HAVE A PLAN OF ATTACK
You have to have a plan of attack every time you go to the gym. So what I try to do is visualize every workout.
BOTTOMS UP FOR CHEST
Remember, you work it from the bottom up. As you build, your upper chest is going to have no choice but to grow.
